Nancy Monk
Nancy Monk’s playfully fresh and intelligently naïve approach to artmaking always surprises with its sheer joy and unaffected simplicity. Her images—often trees, flowers, or curious shapes sprouting stick-like feet—are combinations of paint and collage; miniature reproductions of her own works; and even an odd tiny cashmere sweater shrunken to an unbelievably small size. Many of her shows follow a single color theme, a la Yves Klein, or other formal constraints. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and she has been the recipient of several National Endowment of for the Arts grants. Monk currently lives and works in Pasadena, California.
